The Challenge
Sepon is an open-pit copper and gold project in the Savannakhet Province, south east Laos. In 2002, when the mine was owned by Oxiana (a company that now trades as Oz Minerals), the challenge faced by Powerwest was to successfully deliver a build own operate transfer (BOOT) solution, not just in a remote location, but overseas.
The Solution
Powerwest successfully rose to the challenge. We commissioned a 9MW power station at Sepon, which featured new Cummins engines. In 2005, and after three years of delivering a reliable, cost effective power supply solution, Oxiana bought out the power station.
